Fladgate advises entrepreneur on purchase of Betterware

Our team: Julian Lewis

Fladgate LLP is delighted to have acted for Andrew Cohen in the recent purchase of Betterware, the well known retailer of house-wares and household products.

This is the third time Andrew Cohen has acquired the business. In 1983 it was purchased out of receivership and floated on the stock exchange in 1986. The company was taken private in 1998 but in 2002, Andrew Cohen acquired the business from a consortium of banks that funded the 1998 buy out. In 2008, he sold the business for a second time and in August of this year re-acquired the business from Barclays Bank.

Andrew Cohen commented: “I am delighted to have re-acquired the Betterware business. I am confident that with my backing it will flourish even in current market conditions. The Fladgate team led by Julian Lewis negotiated a deal with Barclays and provided me with an excellent level of service and commitment.”

Julian Lewis commented: “It was a real pleasure to work on this deal. I have a particular affection for the company having been legal counsel and commercial director between 1993 and 2001. Andrew Cohen knows the business better than anybody and I am sure it will prosper in his ownership.”
