Fladgate advises Swiss construction company on CHF200 million energy project

Our team: Gillian Birkby

Fladgate LLP has acted for Zurich based client Hitachi Zosen Inova AG (Hitachi Zosen) on a contract for a new energy-from-waste plant with SITA UK (SITA). The plant is being developed for the South Tyne and Wear Waste Management Partnership as part of a PFI deal.

Swiss based Hitachi Zosen has more than 400 installed plants worldwide and is a leading technology provider in the field of energy-from-waste facilities.

The new plant will be lines four and five of an existing facility in Teesside (for which Hitachi Zosen completed line three a few years ago, also advised by Fladgate) and will treat 260,000 tonnes of waste per annum, producing electricity for the supply of approximately 30,000 households.

Fladgate head of construction Gillian Birkby led the team. Commenting on the project she said: “We have advised Hitachi (formerly Von Roll Inova) on several UK projects to date and are pleased that they have secured yet another contract in the UK.”

Both the Legal 500 and Chambers UK directories recommend Fladgate for construction work, describing the “growing practice” as “timely and reliable” with clients “being confident in the firm’s ability to accommodate legislative change and respond in a manner best suited to their needs”.
