Fladgate LLP is delighted to announce the appointment of partner Gary Smith, who joined on 3 January from Osborne Clarke. Gary specialises in real estate finance, corporate lending and leveraged finance, working both domestically and cross border.
Gary’s appointment is part of the firm’s continuing strategy to identify senior individuals with the expertise to enhance our teams and his extensive expertise will complement our existing strengths in banking and finance.
2011 was an exciting and productive year for Fladgate’s banking and finance team, with panel appointments and the completion of first rate transactions on behalf of banks and borrowers. The team has seen an expansion of work generated from financial institutions and borrowers – particularly in highly specialised property areas such as tax driven schemes and structures – and the consistently high volumes of work have created an opportunity for another partner to add to the firm’s offering.
Commenting on the appointment, Fladgate’s Chairman, Charles Wander said: "Our relocation to larger premises in Covent Garden in 2010 has provided the platform from which we can implement our ambitious future growth plans. This appointment is the latest in a number of strategic hires that we have announced in recent months and we are delighted to welcome Gary to Fladgate. With his background and his links with banks and funders, he will make a significant contribution to the development of our banking and finance team".
Gary Smith added: "I was attracted by the strength of Fladgate’s business and the vision the firm has for its future development. There is a natural fit for my clients and contacts and I am very much looking forward to working with the other members of the banking and finance team to further develop my practice".
This announcement builds upon other strategic recruitment by the firm in recent months, including Finers joint head of real estate, Stephen Lewis, Olswang corporate partner, Amy Collins, Macfarlanes real estate partner, Richard Reuben and Halliwells head of real estate finance, Kim McMurray.
