Fladgate LLP has acted for Zurich based client Hitachi Zosen Inova AG (Hitachi Zosen) on a contract with Ferrybridge MFE Ltd to develop a £300m multifuel generation facility at the Ferrybridge power station in West Yorkshire.

Ferrybridge MFE Ltd is a 50:50 joint venture between power company SSE and Wheelabrator Technologies. Hitachi Zosen was awarded the contract as it has extensive experience on similar multifuel projects.

On-site preparation work is underway and full construction will begin in the summer. The facility will use a range of waste-derived fuels to generate electricity and heat. Completion of the facility is expected by 2015, with power generation starting mid 2015. When operational, the electricity generated by the plant will be sold to SSE.

With some 350 employees in Switzerland, and more than 400 installed plants worldwide, Hitachi Zosen is a leading global technology provider and contractor in the field of energy from waste facilities. It offers customised plant sections and turn-key plants, covering planning, design and engineering, construction and operation, as well as maintenance and overhaul of energy from waste plants.

Fladgate’s head of construction Gillian Birkby and construction partner Frances Alderson advised Hitachi Zosen.

Commenting on the project Gillian said: “We are delighted that Hitachi Zosen have secured yet another contract in the UK”.
