Fladgate instructed on new hotel and accommodation projects by Merlin Entertainments

Our team: Ian Smith

Fladgate LLP’s (Fladgate) construction team has been instructed on a number of new hotel and accommodation projects by Merlin Entertainments (Merlin), the world’s second largest leisure group.

Live projects include the construction of a new LEGO® themed hotel in Japan.  The hotel is to be built adjacent to the new LEGOLAND® Japan which is currently under construction at Nagoya Port.  The multi-billion yen project, on which Fladgate is also instructed, will be the Merlin’s eighth LEGOLAND® park worldwide and is due to open in 2017.

Fladgate is also acting on the construction of a new Knights Village lodge development at Warwick Castle, Warwickshire comprising 16 themed lodges.

It has also been instructed on a new 61 bedroom extension to the existing LEGO® themed hotel at LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort.

Construction partner Barry Hembling and his team, including Ian Smith and Saya Lee, are acting on these projects.

Fladgate is Merlin’s global construction law firm.  Fladgate has established practices in both the hotel and accommodation and public attraction and museum sectors.  Some of the firm’s earliest instructions relate to the latter sector, including acting as solicitors to the Commissioners for the Great Exhibition of 1851, and an instruction from Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, in 1862, to help set up the Smithsonian Institution.
