Fladgate LLP is delighted to have acted for Indian businessman Dr Vijay Mallya in connection with his acquisition of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise Barbados Tridents.
The Barbados Tridents are one of the most prominent teams involved in the three-year-old CPL, the Caribbean’s premier T20 championship. The team won the 2014 CPL title to qualify for the Champions League Twenty20 in India, and reached the 2015 final where they eventually lost to Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel.
A cross-firm team at Fladgate advised on various aspects of the participation agreement which governs the team’s participation in the T20 competition, including sports partner Alan Wetterhahn and corporate partner Graham Spitz.
Commenting, Alan Wetterhahn said:
“We were delighted to continue our long-standing relationship with Dr Mallya and to work on this exciting project. Dr Mallya has a passion for sport and it was a privilege to assist him as he partnered with the T20 franchise in Barbados, a nation with a proud and successful history of cricket in the Caribbean.”
