Fladgate construction partner Barry Hembling spoke at the October 2017 Chatham House conference on the Belt and Road initiative, the world’s largest construction project. The conference examined the evolving framework of the Belt and Road initiative, the political and strategic considerations for its future, what it means for countries in its intended sphere, and the role of governments, international institutions, developers and investors in realising its potential.
Barry Hembling’s contribution focused on financing Belt and Road schemes and the use of alternative finance models, including private finance and the opportunities for the use of green bonds to assist in creating a sustainable ‘silk road’.
