Fladgate is delighted to announce the appointment of Jan Hoppe who joined the firm on 1 January. Previously a partner at Gordon Dadds, his appointment simultaneously boosts two key areas for the firm: the already burgeoning corporate department and the firm’s well-established German desk.
A corporate and commercial lawyer, Jan joins our corporate department of 54 fee earners to advise on M&A matters with a cross-border focus, including the fast growing area of cross-border mergers where Jan has strong established practise. Jan also advises on commercial contracts and competition law. His experience in supply contracts, distribution agreements and commercial agency will add to Fladgate’s already pre-eminent practice in this field.
Qualified as a solicitor in England and as a Rechtsanwalt in Germany, Jan’s appointment further strengthens the firm’s German group, which comprises ten fluent German speakers who advise a substantial client list on all aspects of English law.
Jan is ranked in Chambers Global and the Legal 500 as an expert in corporate and corporate finance work and is described as being “accomplished in counselling on a mix of corporate finance and commercial agreements”.
Commenting on the appointment, Fladgate’s Chairman Charles Wander said: “Fladgate has a significant international practice, with nearly 40% of our business emanating from non-UK clients who are investing into, or doing business with, the UK. Jan’s skills set will further develop the specialist capabilities of our German team and help to meet the demands of our international client base”.
Head of corporate, Grant Gordon, added: “Our focus on strategic growth continues with this appointment and we are delighted to welcome Jan to Fladgate. His experience of working on an international platform will provide real added value to clients of our German and M&A practices, both of which have been particularly active recently”.
Jan Hoppe commented: “Fladgate with its strong international corporate and commercial practice represents an excellent fit for me and my clients, which comprise international household names, as well as SMEs and individual entrepreneurs. I am looking forward to working with my partners at Fladgate to expand the firm’s offering to businesses and individuals with commercial interests both in the UK and internationally”.
This announcement builds upon other strategic appointments by the firm in recent months including the recent appointment of immigration specialist Kelly Whiter, who joined in December from PwC LLP where she was head of the private client immigration team.
