Fladgate advises PCB Litigation on agreement with Burford

Our team: Charles Wander, Zehra Kofturcu, Anthony Shatz

Fladgate LLP has advised boutique law firm PCB Litigation on an innovative financing investment by Burford Capital, the world’s leading finance and asset management firm focused on law, which includes Burford taking a 32% equity stake in PCB.

PCB, renowned for acting on high-value litigation mandates, transitioned into an alternative business structure to obtain regulatory approval for the deal.

Anthony Riem, PCB managing partner said: “Burford coming on board means we will be able to provide an integrated service to clients. It is a long-term deal and part of our growth strategy. For PCB it is going to increase our coverage of distressed debt, and also increase our offering in other areas such as banking and finance.”

Corporate partner Anthony Shatz commented: “This is an innovative transaction under which a law firm has taken a strategic minority investment from a third party. We were delighted to act for PCB on this deal and we look forward to working with them going forward.”

The Fladgate team was led by corporate partner Anthony Shatz, consultant Charles Wander (who previously chaired Fladgate) and senior corporate associate Zehra Kofturcu.
