Jonathan Riley is head of the private wealth group at Fladgate.

Jonathan advises on a range of private client matters including how best to structure privately held wealth.  This frequently involves matters of succession, inheritance and family governance.  As part of this advice Jonathan advises in respect of UK tax and as needed and coordinates tax advice from other jurisdictions.

Jonathan advises wealthy individuals, families, trustees and other fiduciaries that are responsible for the management of private wealth.   A large proportion of his work has an international element and he provides advice to clients who are not resident or domiciled in the UK as well as to those clients that are permanently UK based. Jonathan has particular experience of working with the owners of privately held businesses and the associated private wealth issues that typically arise.

Jonathan recently advised a family in respect of succession to their shared £60m commercial property portfolio.  This involved transferring value to the next generation through the issue of new shares, managing voting and influence across the family groups and the preparation of a family constitution as part of  a structure to enable the family to benefit from an orderly and agreed business succession process.

He is a member of The Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners, The International Bar Association and The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law.

Jonathan is noted as a leading lawyer in both Chambers High Net Worth and the Legal 500 guides.
