About

Iain is an Associate in the Construction & Engineering department and advises clients in relation to both contentious and non-contentious matters.

I joined Fladgate in 2021 from a leading Northern Irish law firm, having specialised in construction law since qualifying as a Solicitor in 2017. I have experience acting for a wide range of clients in the construction industry including Funders, Developers, Consultants, Contractors and Sub-contractors.

In addition to advising on project structure, contract documentation and mid-stream issues, I have a particular interest in construction disputes and help clients resolve these successfully by early advice & where necessary, through mediation, adjudication, arbitration and litigation.

Experience

  • Advising Funders & Developers on project structure and by reviewing/negotiating building contracts, consultants’ appointments, sub-contracts, collateral warranties and other ancillary documents such as novation agreements and bonds.
  • In order to avoid costly disputes down the line, advising Developers and Contractors in relation to mid-stream and “day to day” legal issues as projects progress.
  • Acting for Employers and Contractors in disputes relating to the Contractor’s entitlement to additional time and/or money as a result of variations, disruption and delay.
  • Advising clients in relation to their termination rights and where appropriate, carefully drafting the relevant termination notices.
