He has been dealing with companies and entrepreneurs in India since the mid 1980s, and leads Fladgate’s India team.

Over recent years, the team has established a market reputation as leading advisers to Indian companies and high net worth individuals. It also advises and assists Western companies wishing to do business in India.

For Indian companies, Sunil has dealt with GDR and Convertible Bond listings on the London, Luxembourg and Singapore Exchanges. He also deals extensively with M&A cross-border transactions, including providing advice on the structuring of the deals.

Sunil has a wealth of contacts in India, not just with intermediaries such as lawyers and accountants, but also with promoters and controlling shareholders of significant companies. He advises clients in sectors including financial services, manufacturing, infrastructure, hotels and hospitality.

The growth of the Indian economy and Indian businesses over the past 15 years has meant that Sunil deals with the Indian Diaspora around the world, including those in Singapore and Hong Kong, East Africa, the UAE and Britain.

Sunil’s expertise in international capital markets is recognised by Chambers Global.

As a founder and former chairman (for many years) of the Society of Asian Lawyers in the UK, Sunil has close links and an extensive network of contacts within the UK Asian community. He was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Society of Asian Lawyers, not just in relation to his promotion of Asian lawyers in Britain, but also for his various other charitable activities.

Sunil is Chair of Sense International, a UK charity (the only charity of its kind in the world) that assists people with the double disability of being deaf and blind.

His other appointments include being a Trustee of One World Media, a UK charity which assists media in the developing world to promote issues including education, good governance and human rights, and he is also on the Advisory Board of the Law School of the University of West London.
