Dean Strain

Prior to joining Fladgate, I worked as an assistant director in the in-house legal team of a global investment bank and was involved in negotiating ISDA master agreements, collateral agreements, bespoke hedging transactions and master agreements for Islamic derivatives.

My role entails drafting and negotiating security documentation, release agreements, corporate funding documentation (including intra-group loan agreements) and hedging agreements, as well as working in teams handling complex financing transactions.

My time working in-house ensures I am always aiming to understand clients’ businesses, concerns and key drivers. I enjoy the intellectual challenge that comes with helping clients through lengthy documentation and complex transactions, and so I am keen to work with clients on a wide spectrum of financings.

Outside of work, I enjoy staying active through the gym, yoga, hiking, running and playing football. Sticking to football, my weekends frequently revolve around watching Manchester United, although recently this has brought more pain than pleasure.

• Acted for an international lender in relation to its financing of the conversion of a Grade II* listed building in London into a venue containing a hotel and luxury private residences.
• Advised an English professional football club in relation to a financing with an international bank, using the receivables under a player transfer as security.
• Acted on both the corporate purchase and financing aspects of a client’s purchase of a development site in Canary Wharf.
• Advised a private housebuilder and commercial property developer in relation to a £100,000,000 revolving credit facility refinancing.
