George Finlay

I am an associate in the funds, finance and regulatory team at Fladgate. I advise on a variety of banking transactions including acquisition finance, corporate lending, real estate finance and a particular interest in sports finance.

I moved to Fladgate from a large US law firm in the city with a particular focus on leverage finance. Through my experience I have advised large PE sponsors in a variety of transactions however I am always keen to work on a wide spectrum of finance transactions. I always try to bring a human side to complex transactions and I enjoy advising clients through any legal problem.

Outside of work, I enjoy anything sport related whether that is watching or taking part. I go to the gym as often as I can and train MMA to keep up my fitness when that doesn’t clash with any alcohol related social activities.

Acted for the fund that bought Chelsea Football Club in their financing relating to the acquisition of the club by Todd Boehly.
Advised a popular ticketing platform for theoretical and cultural events on the financing relating to their various corporate acquisitions which involved UK and New York law.
Acted lender side involving a distressed borrower in the private placement of convertible senior secured notes. Two supplemental transactions followed the original transaction relating to the repurchase of bridge notes and further investment for a new series of convertible senior secured notes.

Our sector experience spans a wide range of sports including motor racing, where we have advised teams and drivers in Formula 1, A1 GP, World Rally, Cart, Indy Car and Moto GP, and cricket, football, golf and cycling. We have supported clients on a range of a matters including: intellectual property, sponsorship, broadcasting & web rights, fundraising, events, and regulatory issues.
