I am an international disputes lawyer with over 20 years of experience advising major private and state corporations, as well as ultra-high net worth individuals operating mainly in the energy/natural resources, real estate and financial sectors.


I am a member of the firm’s Dispute Resolution department and lead the firm’s Russia/CIS team.

I have a particular interest and specialism in resolving complex high value commercial conflicts (involving arbitration and court proceedings, as well as alternative dispute resolution) relating to energy/natural resources, international trade, joint venture and shareholder disputes, banking and finance, fraud and asset tracing connected with Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia and the Middle East.

I routinely conduct arbitrations under the rules of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) and others. I am fluent in Russian and Ukrainian languages and have intimate knowledge of local business, its culture and personal connections.

Our civil fraud & asset recovery team is described as 'innovative and nimble'. Its members include those with industry and regional experience as well having regulatory, trusts, employment and insolvency specialisms.


We advise international companies both in the UK and abroad in relation to conducting arbitration proceedings and enforcing international arbitration awards. Our team is also experienced in dealing with investor-state arbitrations under bilateral and multilateral investment treaties, including the Energy Charter Treaty.


Through our extensive relationships with law firms around the world, our clients gain access to teams of lawyers worldwide with a deep understanding of the legal issues faced by businesses in the energy and resources sectors. We have particular experience of energy-related transactions in Africa and Eastern Europe.


We advise secondary and primary-market investors in a range of sectors, PPPs/PFI and asset-backed vehicles we advise investors and contractors on their involvement with PPPs, PFIs and asset-backed vehicles and are experienced in drafting and negotiating appropriate forms of contract (including standard forms) and associated sub-contracts. We also act for a number of investors and contractors on existing renewable energy and battery storage projects, PPPs and PFIs, including advice to investors on the acquisition of portfolios of PFI/ PPP and renewable energy generation assets.

  • Defending a guarantor of insolvent company’s contractual obligations in respect of claims brought by the receiver (LCIA).
  • Defending a commodities trader in relation to alleged breach of contract claim (ICC).
  • Advising a shareholder in relation to derivative action claims (English High Court).
  • Advising majority shareholders in relation to unfair prejudice claims (LCIA).
