Emilly Chalk

I am a dispute resolution associate specialising in contentious trusts and probate litigation. I also have experience in complex international trust and probate administration.

I advise clients in relation to litigation and how to avoid it. I focus on advising private individuals on disputes involving trusts, wills and estates, commercial disputes including fraud, partnership litigation and arbitration, minority shareholder actions, tax litigation and misrepresentation. I have experience advising on areas of marital law such as pre- and post-nuptial agreements and on non-contentious wealth planning and trust matters for a diverse range of clients.

My practice focuses on international trust and estate litigation, including a significant number of breach of fiduciary duty claims and probate disputes. I have advised on matters in the English Courts and internationally in the BVI, Cayman and Liechtenstein.

I am the treasurer of ConTrA (the Contentious Trusts Association), which was founded in 2015 to encourage knowledge sharing and networking between junior associates and barristers and now has in excess of 750 members.

Outside of the office, I am a keen long-distance runner often trying to combine my passion for marathon running and travelling by entering races in far away places.

Acting for King Ogiame III in a dispute regarding the estate of his father-in-law Captain Idahosa Wells Okunbo, a wealthy Nigerian businessman who was worth in excess of $1 billion.
Acting for a pharmaceutical entrepreneur in the Court of Appeal on an appeal against a multi-million summary judgment in relation to the use of trusts as a form of restitution and compensation and causation when awarding equitable compensation.
Operating a virtual family office offering for a UHNW family and ensuring proper trustee decision making and reviewing investment documentation.
