We are looking for a 2 - 4 PQE Associate to join our non-contentious Construction team within our Real Estate department.
This is a varied and stimulating role, offering exposure to a broad range of construction matters. You will advise on and draft consultant appointments and ancillary documents, provide guidance on the Building Safety Act, and support clients and project teams throughout the lifecycle of developments. The role will also involve working with a range of building contracts and contributing to the successful delivery of construction projects.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience within a non-contentious construction team in private practice. Key Responsibilities
Work under supervision on a broad range of non-contentious construction matters. The work will include but not be limited to:
Consultant and Ancillary Documents
- Preparation and negotiation of consultant appointments (including architects, engineers and other professional consultants)
- Drafting, reviewing and advising on collateral warranties in favour of funders, purchasers and tenants
- Experience advising on and negotiating performance bonds and parent company guarantees (PCGs)
Building Safety Act Experience
- Advising on projects impacted by the Building Safety Act 2022
- Understanding of building safety risk allocation, gateway requirements and compliance obligations
- Experience supporting clients on remediation projects, higher-risk buildings and building safety–related contractual provisions
Client and Project Support
- Providing practical, commercial advice to developers, contractors, funders and consultants
- Managing multiple construction matters simultaneously and supporting larger project teams
- Assisting with due diligence on construction aspects of real estate and corporate transactions
Building Contracts
- Drafting and negotiating building contracts, mainly JCT (D&B, Standard w/o Quants, ICD)
- Undertaking due diligence on JCT, NEC and FIDIC forms.
General responsibilities
- Take responsibility under supervision for own files and manage all aspects of client work in line with the firm’s quality control procedures and CQS requirements.
- Deal directly with other lawyers and clients.
- Take work from a number of partners and senior associates and manage workload.
- Assist in business development and marketing initiatives.
- Keep up to date with developments within the law and develop expertise.
Person Specification
- Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with solid academics.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience within a non-contentious construction team in private practice. Additional experience in contentious construction would be considered but is not essential.
- Able to demonstrate exceptional case management skills.
- Able to demonstrate a proven track record of excellent direct client contact and client care.
- Excellent co-ordination and organisational skills.
- Communicates effectively and clearly.
- Track record of gaining respect, trust and credibility both internally and externally.
- Thinks creatively and has a positive work ethic, demonstrating energy, enthusiasm and drive.
- Comfortable with the practicalities around personal time recording and billing.
