This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Finance department, which currently comprises a team of 14, including the Head of Finance, Financial Controller, four Legal Cashiers, a Revenue Supervisor, a Senior Revenue Controller, a Revenue Controller, a Revenue Assistant and an Assistant Accountant.

Role Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a portfolio of partner practice groups, working to reduce “lock‑up” through effective WIP management, timely processing of bills and liaising with clients to ensure prompt payment of invoices
  • Take ownership of client queries, ensuring they are resolved within firm SLA times
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships throughout the revenue cycle to ensure invoices are processed promptly and paid in line with agreed terms
  • Ensure all queries are resolved in a timely manner, without adverse impact on client relationships or cashflow
  • Monitor exposure across the assigned portfolio, ensuring risk is minimised and escalations are actioned in accordance with firm guidelines to continually improve lock‑up days
  • Maintain an accurate client contacts database and up‑to‑date notes on the Aderant collections system, ensuring adherence to the collections policy
  • Manage special rates, maintain registers, produce account reconciliations and issue monthly statements of account
  • Manage a ledger of group clients
  • Work collaboratively across all practice groups, taking ownership of partner debt across multiple ledgers, including the transfer of time and client funds in line with firm policy
  • Prepare files for legal action on non‑paying matters, ensuring all required steps are taken, including discussions with partners and the Revenue Manager, and completion of all necessary documentation
  • Provide flexible support at month‑end and assist the wider Finance team when required
  • Contribute to future projects as the firm continues to develop and enhance its billing processes

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • A proven track record in a revenue role, ideally within the legal sector or another professional services environment
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with partners and internal teams to maximise cashflow
  • A confident and professional telephone manner, with the ability to manage client relationships effectively, particularly where issues arise
  • Confidence dealing with individuals in positions of authority
  • A proactive, forward‑thinking approach, with ownership of ledgers in line with collections policy guidelines
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong numerical and analytical capability
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to multi‑task
  • A calm, confident and resilient approach
  • A professional, positive and ‘can‑do’ attitude
  • Previous experience with Aderant Expert (advantageous but not essential)
  • Billing experience (desirable), particularly to support quarter‑end and year‑end processes
  • E‑billing experience (preferred but not essential)
  • Strong IT skills, including Excel and Word
