I am an international disputes resolution lawyer specialising in investment treaty, commercial arbitration, commercial disputes, defence of arbitration award enforcements and development of infrastructure projects on behalf of African governments, state entities and national oil and gas companies in high profile disputes.

I advise on international arbitration matters and defence of arbitration award enforcements on behalf of African governments, state entities and national oil and gas companies in high profile disputes. I have been part of leadership of the Africa Practice Group of major international law firms for a period of 10 years and have been regularly appointed as counsel on the largest disputes emerging from the African continent.

Experience

  • Leading the team representing the Federal Republic of Nigeria in defending a $6billion dispute in relation to the acquisition by Eni and Royal Dutch Shell of an oil-prospecting license, known as OPL 245, for exploration rights to a deep-water block off the Nigerian coast, adjudged as one of the most valuable oil fields in Africa.
  • Led the team that represented the Federal Republic of Nigeria on a global defence of enforcement proceedings of a US$11 billion arbitral award in favour of a British Virgin Island (BVI) entity, Process & Industrial Development (P&ID) on a failed 20 year gas supply and processing agreement. The defence was across multiple jurisdictions including the United States, United Kingdom, BVI and Nigeria.
  • Advised Ghana National Petroleum Corporation on the development of a $7.9 billion integrated oil and gas infrastructure project, the Offshore Cape Three Points, representing one of the largest foreign investments in Ghana.
  • Advised the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on a commercial arbitration regarding oil lifting entitlements disputes on a production sharing contract with a Chinese state-owned company on OML 130.
  • Leading the team representing the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in enforcement proceedings by AIC Limited in the United Kingdom. The Awards value is estimated to be in excess of US$150 million. The scope of my representation spans several different sets of proceedings including proceedings in the Court of Appeal (2020) EWCA Civ 1585) and the Supreme Court ([2022)] UKSC 16), whereby the Supreme Court (UKSC) set the precedence in UK civil proceedings with regards to the test for re-opening judgments before they are sealed.
