Connecting Rural Communities in Scotland

We’re proud to have assisted AlphaReal on the English law aspects of a bespoke £40 million financing to HBNL enabling a substantial expansion of its fibre network across rural Scotland. The Scottish National Investment Bank further supported the initiative with an additional £10 million.

The funding will enable Highland Broadband to continue its network expansion throughout rural Scotland, bringing gigabit connectivity to previously digitally isolated towns and villages. This bespoke financing solution will not only help Highland Broadband improve the quality of life for the residents of these communities, but the new gigabit network will also provide the foundation for future economic growth in the region.

Our collaboration with Burges Salmon LLP, led by lead partner Stuart McMillan, brought essential Scottish law expertise, and working closely with AlphaReal, we ensured seamless operations on the ambitious project.

Lead partner Gary Smith commented: “We were very pleased to work with AlphaReal on providing a tailored lending solution that will benefit so many communities in rural Scotland. The successful execution of this deal underscores our capability to deliver impactful solutions through collaborative efforts.”
